Youth, Student & Educational Travel Market
New Data Highlights £34.6 Billion Economic Impact of UK Youth, Student, and Educational Travel Sector
Working with our association partners in the UK and overseas, we have combined a series of data sets and insights to provide a comprehensive market report, identifying purpose of trip, age and gender breakdowns, source countries and, of course, the volume and value data which highlights the enormous contribution that this sector brings to the UK economy.
This report shows that in 2019 youth, student and educational travel represented 34% of all inbound visits to the UK. The impact of Covid-19 on our sector is widely understood, and few to no visits to the UK were made after March 2020 – effectively meaning that the UK has lost out on £28.6 billion in youth and student tourism receipts.
We will use this report as an industry benchmark from which to build back better. Whilst there have been casualties, our industry has shown outstanding resilience, and there is huge pent-up demand for cultural and leisure travel, as well as study experiences.
