The British Educational Travel Association (BETA) is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Emma English, has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s New Year Honours List, in recognition of her services to youth, student and educational travel.

The honour recognises Emma’s long-standing contribution to the development, representation, and advocacy of the UK’s youth and educational travel sector, working closely with industry stakeholders, government, and international partners to champion the value of international mobility, cultural exchange, and educational travel.

As BETA enters its 23rd year in 2026, this recognition is a significant milestone not only for the Association, but for the wider sector it represents. Youth, student and educational travel plays a vital role in supporting the UK visitor economy, strengthening international relationships, and delivering long-term educational, social and economic benefits.

Emma English said:

I am incredibly honoured to receive this recognition, which reflects the collective work of BETA’s members, partners and Board over many years. This award belongs to the youth, student and educational travel sector as a whole, and to the organisations and individuals who continue to demonstrate its value to the UK and globally.

BETA would like to thank its members and supporters for their continued commitment to the sector and for the vital role they play in shaping opportunities for young people through international travel and education.
